Why You Should Visit a Rhinitis Clinic

Rhinitis, or nasal congestion, is your body’s way of defending itself from allergens and other irritants. Our doctors will work with you to identify the triggers that cause your symptoms and find a solution that makes you feel better.비염한의원

Rhinitis comes in many forms, from occasional sneezing or a runny nose to chronic rhinitis that can interfere with your daily activities. Your doctor will ask you questions about your symptoms and do a physical exam. Then, if necessary, they’ll order some tests to make sure the cause isn’t another health condition.

Allergic Rhinitis

Allergies are a common cause of rhinitis, which is when your immune system mistakes something in the air for a threat and triggers an allergic reaction. In allergic rhinitis, the nasal passages swell and produce mucus, which causes a runny nose, sneezing, nasal itching and postnasal drip (the sensation that mucus is draining down the back of the throat). Allergic rhinitis can be seasonal or persistent. Symptoms are usually mild, but can be moderate or severe.

Nonallergic Rhinitis

Some people have a problem that’s not caused by allergies, which is called vasomotor rhinitis. It doesn’t happen because you have a specific allergy, but because your immune system is over-reacting to things like chemicals in the air, medicines you take or hormone changes. This type of rhinitis can affect anyone, but it is more common in women and people assigned female at birth and in people over age 20.

While we don’t know what causes it, we do know that the rhinitis is a significant contributor to asthma in some people. We also know that controlling the rhinitis can improve asthma symptoms in people who have both conditions.

The first line of treatment for both types of rhinitis is an antihistamine medication. Oral second-generation antihistamines, such as desloratadine (Aerius), fexofenadine (Allegra), loratadine (Claritin) and cetirizine (Reactine), are very effective for most patients. Newer intranasal medications, such as beclomethasone (Blexten) and rupatadine (Rupall), are also available and are showing promising results in early trials.라경찬한의원
